No children or young people should be forced to perform any work which interferes harmfully with their health or development.

In Ireland, the hours young people are allowed to work depends on age and whether or not the work takes place during school term time. At 14 you can do light work up to 35 hours per week during the holidays. At 15 year you can do light work up to 8 hours per week during term time and up to 35 hours per week outside term time.

If you are 16 or 17 years of age you can work for 40 hours a week.

The governement has a responsibility to protect young people from exploitation in prostitution, from being forced to take part in other sexual activities and from being exploited in pornographic performances or materials.
