Login to chat to Childline

We’ve changed the way Childline works. You don’t need to login to use chat anymore. Just click on Live Chat.

Your data is confidential. For more information see our privacy notice.

How does it work? It’s open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year – it never closes. It’s free to contact and you can get in touch in two different ways: through our website childline.ie where you can have a live chat with us via the Live Chat button on the screen or by phone – 1800 66 66 66. How do I know you won’t tell my parents/carers? The Childline 24-Hour Support Line is confidential, so we don’t trace calls or use caller ID or trace your IP address. We’re non-directive which means we’re not going to tell you what to do. Instead, we’re going to help you come up with the best solution that’s right for you right now. We’re non-judgemental so we won’t judge what you have done or said. We’re here to listen and support you through this difficult time. Who will I be speaking to? When you contact Childline, you’ll be answered by one of our wonderful, dedicated team of volunteers and staff. They each have one thing in common – they’re all there for you. Does something bad have to happen for me to get in touch with Childline? Not at all! You can talk to Childline about anything that’s happening in your life – how your day was, your friends, your family, school life, relationships, mental health, if you’re feeling anxious, if you’re being bullied, if you’ve lost a loved one, etc. What if I’m in immediate danger? We do get calls from children who are going through something really dangerous and it’s important to remember that every young person has the right to be safe and the right to be happy. It’s very natural not to know what to do when you’re in a scary situation. If you contact Childline, we can talk through it with you and let you know that it’s not your fault and how to get support. Will you call An Garda Síochána? If you want us to get help for you, we will ask you to give us your contact details so we can put you in touch with someone whose job it is to make sure you’re safe. This could be someone from the Gardaí or Tusla. This is your decision. Childline will not force you to give information if you are not ready. What if I’m not ready to talk to someone? If you’d prefer to get in touch over Live Chat rather than by phone, go to childline.ie and click on the Live Chat button at the side of the screen. This will immediately open a chat window with one of our Childline volunteers. It’s your safe space to talk about whatever you want to. As well as chatting online, there are lots of supportive articles and videos on the website that can help you cope better with the feelings or situation you’re dealing with. We’re here for you. Reach out, for ANY reason.
