Thinking of the past

Your Question

How can i stop reflecting on the past?

Answer

Hey there, thanks for getting in touch!

It’s completely normal to find yourself stuck in the whirlwind of past memories, especially as a teenager. Sometimes, those moments can feel like they’re replaying on a loop in your mind, making it hard to focus on the present. But hey, you’re not alone in feeling this way. Many young people struggle with similar thoughts and emotions.

First off, know that it’s ok to acknowledge your past experiences and the feelings they bring up. They’ve played a part in shaping who you are today. But dwelling on them too much can prevent you from fully enjoying the present and looking forward to the future.

One helpful strategy is to practice mindfulness. Try grounding yourself in the here and now by focusing on your senses or engaging in activities that bring you joy. Also, consider talking to someone you trust about what’s on your mind. Whether it’s a friend, family member, or a professional like a counsellor, sharing your thoughts and feelings can provide relief and perspective.
