The most important relationship you’ll ever have is with yourself. Seriously!
How you treat yourself will dictate how others treat you. That’s why it’s so important to be confident in your own skin before you start a relationship with someone else. Â
But knowing what’s okay and what isn’t can sometimes be a minefield, even if you’re a very secure person. Â
With that in mind, here are some strong indicators that you’re in a healthy relationship:Â
- You strive to solve conflicts without making threats or putting each other down
- You respect each other’s opinions even when they’re different
- You enjoy spending time apart – either alone or with your own friends
- You trust each other and feel totally safe when you’re together
- You support each other’s goals in life and work together to make them happen
- You can completely be yourself around each other
- You both apologise when you’re wrong and accept responsibility for your actions or words
- You respect each other’s privacy – phone, letters, emails, messages etc.
- You communicate your sexual needs and never feel pressured to have sex
- Your friends and family like your partner and are happy for you both
- You encourage each other to pursue extra-curricular activities like sports, music or art, etc.
