Thank you for contacting us. We understand that it’s not always easy to share how you’re feeling, but we also know how important it is to talk about our worries.   

You have shared with us that your ma threatens to give you a black eye going to school and want to know if that is bad. We are concerned to hear that your ma has said this to you, as no one has the right to harm you or give you a black eye. Every child and young person has the right to be safe, to be cared for and to be treated with love and respect.   

You have the right to feel safe and happy in your home and your ma doesn’t have the right to hurt you in any way. There are laws in place in Ireland that protect young people from harm so that means there are organisations and support services available to keep children and young people safe from harm. Here is an article that you may find helpful www.childline.ie/what-is-abuse/,

Would you have an adult that you trust and could talk to about what has been going on at home. You have the right to get help and be supported so maybe talking to someone you trust is an option. This adult could be a relative, a teacher, a sports/activity coach or any adult in your life.
