Alex's Answer

Do you need to get good grades

Your Question

I  really like my appearance, but it makes me feel like if I don’t get amazing grades, that I’m useless and will never be anything good in life. How do I stop this?

Answer

Hello there! It’s great that you’ve reached out to Ask Alex for support.

It’s perfectly normal to have concerns and worries, especially during your teenage years. Firstly, we want to acknowledge that your feelings are valid, and it’s important to address them. Feeling pressure to excel academically while also dealing with appearance-related concerns can be quite overwhelming.

To help you stop feeling this way, consider talking to a trusted adult in your life, like a parent, teacher, or school counsellor. They can offer guidance, listen to your concerns, and provide valuable perspective on the situation. Here is an article from the Childline website which you may find helpful www.childline.ie/homework-and-revision/.

In addition, organisations like www.bodywhys.ie/ can be a great resource for support and information, whether or not you’re struggling with appearance-related issues. They have lots of experience in this area and can put you in touch with a community of individuals who may be going through similar experiences.

Lastly, if you ever feel like you can’t talk to someone you know just yet, don’t forget that you can reach out to the Childline Team. We’re available 24/7 and can be contacted for free at 1800 66 66 66 or through Live Chat at www.Childline.ie. The service is non-judgmental and confidential. You are never alone. We are here to support you and explore your options with you.

Remember, you are not alone in your journey, and there are people and resources out there to help you through challenging times. Take one step at a time, and things will get better. Feel free to come back to Ask Alex anytime you need support or information.

Take care, and we wish you all the best in your personal journey!
