Alex's Answer

Can you get pregnant while you're taking birth control

Your Question

Is it possible to be pregnant if I’m on birth control, I took a plan B, I went to the doctor and had to pee in a cup (no red flags), and I’ve had my period since the incident? My boyfriend fingered me with sperm on his hand, once he realized, he immediately stopped. This occurred about 2 months ago and I am now a month late on my period. My mom is extremely non-accepting of sex at my age, so there is no way I could talk to her about the situation. Other than going and buying a pregnancy test, can you please console my mind? -sincerely a scared 16-year-old.

Answer

Hi there, thank you for contacting Ask Alex.

It’s very brave of you to contact us, as we know it’s not always easy for young people to talk. You mention having sexual contact with your boyfriend recently and are now worried about being pregnant. You are wondering if there is any way that we can console your mind, but unfortunately, the only way to really be sure if you are pregnant or not is by visiting your doctor. A home pregnancy test might be an option for you as well; these are available to buy from pharmacies and supermarkets.

There are some articles on the Childline website which may also help you with the issue you are facing at the moment:
