A chatbot is a computer programme that is designed to simulate conversation with human users especially on the internet. Chances are, you’ve interacted with a chatbot whether you were aware of it at the time or not! 

Have you got a trusted adult such as a parent or teacher with whom you can talk to some more about chatbots? It’s a good idea to gather as much information as you can, and this trusted adult may also be able to give you advice around online safety in general as well. 

You are welcome to talk to Childline by phone on 1800 66 66 66, by text to 50101 or through our web chat on www.childline.ie. Childline is here for you anytime and we are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  When you are chatting with Childline there is a real person talking back to you and not a computer programme. The services are free and confidential. We are non-judgmental, and we will not tell you want to do. We can help you explore what options may be available to you.
