Your Question

What does the fox say

Answer

Hi there,

You are very welcome to Ask Alex. Thank you for taking the time to come on and ask your question. We believe that sharing thoughts and feelings is a great thing for young people (and adults too!) to do. We also want you to know that Childline is a safe space where you are free to express yourself without fear of judgement or being told what to do.

You’ve asked us what the fox says. A quick poll around the office proves that not many of us know exactly what the fox says but one thing is clear, we all sing: “Ring-ding-ding-ding-dingeringeding! Gering-ding-ding-ding-dingeringeding! Gering-ding-ding-ding-dingeringeding!” when somebody asks that question! We suspect that that song will be stuck in our minds for days!

On a more serious note, have you ever thought of doing your own research around foxes? There are lots of resources and websites with information about them online. Foxes are beautiful animals with their bushy tails and pointy little faces. We found some interesting facts about foxes that you might enjoy.

  • A group of foxes is called a skulk or leash
  • Foxes have whiskers on their legs and face which help them to navigate
  • Grey foxes can retract their claws like cats do
  • A male fox is called a ‘dog fox’ while a female is called a ‘vixen’

Finally, and perhaps most importantly considering your question:

  • FOXES MAKE 40 DIFFERENT SOUNDS!

There are so many animals and each of them have their own sound. Have you a preference when it comes to animals?

Thank you for engaging in our service and for being brave enough to ask your question and to start a singalong in the Childline office!

If you would ever like to get in touch about animals or anything at all that comes up for you, you are welcome to call us on 1800 666 666, use our instant messaging service on https://www.childline.ie/ or text us: 50101. These services are completely non-judgmental, and it is a confidential place for you to have a chat. We are open 24 hours a day, every day of the year, so you are very welcome to reach out to us at any time. We are always here to listen.

Remember, all your feelings are valid, regardless of what they may be!

Take care of yourself,

Alex
