Alex's Answer

What can I do

Your Question

What can I do about wanting to die and kill myself

Answer

Hi there and thank you for contacting Ask Alex.

Firstly, can we say how brave you are in reaching out for help as taking this first step is always the hardest. You talk about wanting to die and kill yourself.

We here at Ask Alex are very concerned by this. There are many organisations that can support you in how you are feeling. CAMHS (Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service) supports children and young people who are experiencing mental health difficulties. You can attend your local GP for a referral if you are over 16. If you are under 16, you must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Pieta House is another service that supports young people who are experiencing suicidal ideation or actively self-harming (www.pieta.ie). They also have a 24/7 crisis line: 1800 247 247 or text HELP to 51444.

We wonder also, do you have a trusted adult in your life like a parent, guardian, extended family member, teacher, or school counsellor that you could speak to about how you are feeling and then support you in this journey as you reach out for help?

If ever you need to talk about how you’re feeling and you don’t know who to go to, know Childline is here for you. We will listen and support you whenever you need us. You can contact our free phone service on 1800 66 66 66 or chat with us through our webchat service by clicking on the purple Messenger circle on www.childline.ie. We are here 24-hours a day, every single day.

We encourage you to phone or message Childline or Pieta the next time you are feeling suicidal. There are people who care about you and want to support you. You are important. You are valued. You deserve to be alive.

Take care of yourself, and please reach out again soon,
Alex
