Answer

Hey there, thanks for reaching out to Ask Alex

We are so sorry to hear that you are going through such a difficult time. It is really brave of you to reach out to Ask Alex and your friend. Taking that first step towards getting help is always the hardest part . So well done!

We would be very concerned about your safety at this point and would strongly encourage to reach out once more. It can seem overwhelming to speak to someone about such a difficult time, however, there is always someone who is willing to listen, and who can help you find the support you deserve.

Remember, you don’t have to go through this alone. We would like to believe that there are people who care about you and want to support you through this difficult time. We strongly suggest that you speak to a trusted adult in your life who can help you link in with your local GP, and support you in getting the help that you deserve.

There are many supports available that you could also link with such as Pieta house. They have a Crisis Line through which you can be supported Their number is 1800 247 247 or you can text “HELP” to 51444. Their website is www.pieta.ie and you will find other resources there that you might find helpful.

The Jigsaw website, www.jigsaw.ie, also provides details and support for mental health.

If you find yourself in a medical emergency, please contact  112  or  999  straight away! Or you can present yourself at the Emergency Depart of your local hospital.

You’ve taken the brave first step, but you’ll need continued support, and it’s important that you receive it. If you feel you cannot talk to those around you right now, you can always contact our Childline team.

We will listen and support you. You can contact us via the freephone number on 1800 66 66 66 or via chat through our webchat service, by clicking on the purple Messenger circle at www.childline.ie. We are here 24-hours every day, for confidential, non-judgmental support, for any reason .

We really do believe that most important step to take right now is linking with your GP. They will be able to guide and support you through the next stage of your journey.

Remember, as A.A Milne once said, “you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think”. You are also not alone.

Take care and keep reaching out for help,

Alex
