Alex's Answer

My SNA hates me

Your Question

I feel like my school sna (special needs assistant) hates me

Hey there, you’re very welcome to Ask Alex!

We’re really sorry you’re feeling this way. It’s tough when you feel like someone at school, especially someone who’s supposed to support you, might not be on your side. Feeling like your school’s special needs assistant (SNA) doesn’t like you can be incredibly isolating and hurtful. It’s important to remember that your feelings are valid, and it’s okay to reach out for support when you’re going through something like this.

Sometimes, it can be hard to understand why someone might seem like they’re not on your side. It’s possible that there could be misunderstandings or miscommunications at play. Maybe there’s something bothering the SNA that has nothing to do with you, or perhaps they’re not aware of how their actions are affecting you. It might be helpful to try and have a calm and respectful conversation with them about how you’re feeling.

However, if you’re not comfortable doing that, or if you’ve tried and it hasn’t helped, remember that you’re not alone. There are people who care about you and want to help. Whether it’s a trusted teacher, a school counsellor, a family member, or even an outside support like Childline, reaching out for help and talking about what you’re going through can make a big difference.

You deserve to feel supported and valued at school, and it’s important to take care of yourself. Remember, you can always contact us at Childline by freephone 1800 66 66 66 or Messenger at (just click on the purple chat icon). We’re confidential, non-judgmental, open 24/7, and always here for you for any reason, any time. You’re not alone, and there are people who want to support you through this.

Reach out and talk to somebody you trust, or reach out to the Childline team soon, so that this situation can be solved quickly and you can enjoy school life again.

Look after yourself,
