My Parents saw my scars

Your Question

My mom and dad found out about it today and they’re making me put foundation and concealer on over them. They are ashamed of it and I just think it’s a scar that proved I went through battling mental health and survived. She yelled at me at first but then she comforted me

Hey there, thanks for getting in touch,
We hear you, and it sounds like you’re going through a tough time. Dealing with mental health challenges is something many teens face, and it’s important to remember that you’re not alone in this journey. It takes a lot of courage to open up about your experiences, and we would like to say well done to you for that.
It can be really difficult when those closest to us, like our parents, react in unexpected ways. It seems like your mom initially had a strong reaction, but it’s good to hear that she eventually offered comfort. It’s possible that parents may not always understand right away, but your perspective on your scars as symbols of strength and survival is powerful.
Remember, your emotions are valid, and it’s okay to feel a mix of emotions about the situation. You are never alone, and there are people who care about you. Consider reaching out to friends, a school counsellor, or a mental health professional for additional support. Talking about your feelings can be a positive step towards healing, and it’s a brave choice to share your story.
