Answer

Hey there, thanks for getting in touch!

Welcome to Ask Alex, a place where young people in Ireland can ask a question anonymously and have it answered publicly on Childline.ie.

It takes a lot of courage to reach out for help, especially when it comes to something as sensitive as what you’ve shared. It’s clear that you care deeply about your friend, and that’s very admirable. Nobody has the right to hurt anybody else, with words, hands or feet.

We’re really sorry to hear that your friend has been hurt. It must be really tough for both of you right now. When someone we care about is going through a difficult time, it can leave us feeling helpless and unsure of what to do. Please know that you’re not alone in this.

It’s important to support your friend as best as you can, but it’s also essential to prioritise your own well-being. Sometimes, helping a friend can be overwhelming, and it’s ok to ask for support for yourself too.

Talking to a trusted adult can provide you with the guidance and support you need. Can you think of an adult you could talk to? Your parent, a teacher, somebody you feel comfortable talking to. Remember, you’re not responsible for fixing everything, but being there for your friend and reaching out for help when you need it are significant steps towards finding a solution. You’re showing incredible strength and compassion by seeking advice, and we truly believe that you and your friend can get through this together.

If you ever feel like you need someone to talk to, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Childline. We’re available 24/7, and our services are completely confidential and non-judgmental. You’re never alone in this journey, and there are people who care about you and want to help. Our freephone number is 1800 66 66 66 or you can message us through Childline.ie.

Take care of yourself, and remember that you’re valued and supported,
Alex
