Hi there, 

Thank you for getting in touch with Ask Alex and sharing what’s going on for you. It sounds like the way your dad is reacting to you is really upsetting for you and it’s completely understandable you would feel upset. 

You say this happens when you do something wrong or make a little mistake, it’s important to remember that we all do things wrong or make mistakes from time to time. Sometimes there can be tension or arguments in a family but it’s important to know that nobody has the right to make you feel upset, no matter who they are. It’s also really vital that you feel safe in your home, and if you ever feel unsafe or at risk, it’s crucial that you reach out to someone who can help you. 

Have you ever shared with your dad how much it upsets you when he gets angry with you? I don’t know from what you’ve said if this is something that you feel like you could do, or if it’s something you’re comfortable with and that’s absolutely okay. Having a time when everyone is calm and relaxed and open to listening could be helpful. Are there any other family members that you would feel comfortable talking to about how your dad is making you feel? You have the right to get help and support with how you’re feeling and what’s happening with your dad, and sometimes talking about it with someone you trust can help to support you.
