Answer

Hi there, you are very welcome to Ask Pat today.

You are asking us what if you are faking your mental illness and how would you know?

It sounds like you are unsure whether you have a mental illness. Childline would be concerned for you, and if you felt comfortable, you could contact us to talk or chat about what is going on for you.

You have the right to get help and support around your mental wellbeing.

Childline’s phone service is open 24 hours a day at 1800 66 66 66 and we would be more than happy for you to give us a call. Our service is free and completely non judgmental. We are there to listen, support and help you to explore the options that are available to you. We also have a free text service (50101) and a Live Messaging service (available on this website), if you would rather contact us that way.

You have the right to talk to a trusted adult about what is going on for you. They could be a Parent, Teacher, Relative or someone who you feel comfortable talking to, as it might be helpful for you to talk about why you are feeling the way that you do further.

Alternatively, on this Childline website there is a section for TOP TIPS FOR MENTAL WELLBEING which is in the INFO AND ADVICE section. You may find some useful advice there.
We hope that you find that above helpful.

Thank you for contacting us here at Ask Pat and we wish you well.
