Answer

Hi there, thanks for reaching out to Ask Alex.

Firstly, we want to say that we hear you, and we’re here to support you. It takes a lot of courage to reach out, even if it’s just through a message. It’s clear that you’re going through a really tough time, and it’s completely understandable that you might feel overwhelmed or unsure about asking for help.

It sounds like you’re struggling with some intense feelings, and that can be incredibly difficult to handle on your own. Self-harm, like cutting, is often a way for people to cope with emotional pain, but it’s important to know that there are healthier ways to manage those feelings. You’re not alone in this, and there are people who want to help you find better ways to cope.

While you might feel like you don’t need help, it’s important to recognise that reaching out for support is a brave and positive step towards healing. You deserve to feel safe and supported, and there are people who care about you and want to help you through this. Pieta.ie is an organisation who support people who self-harm and help them find those healthier ways to cope with their feelings. They have a helpline (1800 247 247) and a text service (text HELP to 51444).

If you ever find yourself in a situation where you’re feeling unsafe at home, it’s crucial to reach out to emergency services immediately by dialling 999 or 112. Your safety is the most important thing.

Remember, you are never alone. The Childline team is here for you, 24 hours a day, every day. You can reach out to us for support and to explore your options by calling 1800 66 66 66 or by messaging us on their website www.Childline.ie. Just click on the purple chat icon, and someone will be there to listen and help you through this difficult time. You don’t have to face this alone.

You deserve support, please reach out for it real soon,
Alex
