Alex's Answer

Is this service just for Irish kids

Your Question

Can other nationalities talk to a Childline? I’m not Irish.

Answer

Hi there, thank you for contacting Ask Alex.

You asked whether it would be okay for foreign nationals to speak with Childline. The answer is, yes.

Childline is a listening service for all children under the age of 18, and we focus on your thoughts and feelings. Every child has a right to be safe, has a right to education, and more under the United Nations Children’s Rights Act. You can find more information on international rights here: https://www.childline.ie/your-rights/

Our service is restricted to Ireland alone in terms of directing to services, being able to phone the emergency services if necessary, and regarding legal age, advice, and more. Childline can talk and listen to you; however, if you reside outside Ireland, Childline would be unable to provide legal or welfare advice. Would that be that alright with you?

We have a team here at Childline who are waiting and prepared to listen to you. We will not judge you or tell you what to do. Whenever you are ready to express your ideas and feelings, we are here for you. We are accessible every day of the week, round-the-clock. You can reach us online at www.childline.ie (just click the orange Live Chat tab to start a chat).

Thanks again for reaching out, and remember, we are always here to listen.
