Is it wrong that I had thought of suicide

Answer

Hello there, and thank you for contacting Ask Alex.

We understand that it can be really difficult to open up about how you are feeling, so thanks for reaching out.

Firstly, it is never wrong to have thoughts; your thoughts and feelings are unique to you. You mentioned dealing with suicidal thoughts, and we are sorry to hear this. It must feel really difficult.

Did you know that there are organizations that help people who have suicidal thoughts or self-harm? For example, Pieta House (www.pieta.ie/) offers a free 24/7 Crisis helpline at 1800 247 247 or you can text HELP to 51444. Additionally, Samaritans (www.samaritans.org) also provides a free 24-hour helpline at 116 123. You could  speak to your GP either, who will be able to find the right support for you.

It could be helpful to speak to an adult you trust, such as a parent, teacher, youth worker, or relative. Speaking to someone we trust can be comforting and ensure that we get the help we need.

Here at Childline, there is a team of people ready to listen to you whenever you are ready to share your thoughts and feelings. We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can contact us via phone at 1800 66 66 66 or through our webchat at www.childline.ie/, just click on the Live Chat tab.

We would love to hear from you, so please get in touch.

Take care of yourself,
Alex.”
