Alex's Answer

Is it a sin to be gay

Your Question

Is being gay a sin

Answer

Hi there and welcome to Ask Alex,

Liking someone in a special way and feeling attracted to them is called “sexuality” or “sexual orientation.” Sometimes, it’s about having warm feelings or feeling a strong connection with someone, like when you really like them as a friend or more than a friend.

There are many different ways that people like each other, and people might use different words to explain their feelings. LGBT is an organisation which supports lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, or questioning people lgbt.ie/

Some people believe that being gay is not a sin and that it’s okay to love and care for someone of the same gender. They think that everyone should be treated with kindness and respect, no matter who they love. Other people might have different beliefs based on their religion or culture. It’s important to remember that everyone is entitled to their own beliefs, but what matters most is how we treat each other.

Being kind, accepting, and respectful of others is really important. If you have more questions or feelings about this topic, it’s a good idea to talk to a trusted adult or someone you feel comfortable with. If you feel you would like to talk to an adult but you are not sure who to ask or where to begin, know that Childline is here for you to listen and to support you. Childline can be contacted through the free phone number 1800 66 66 66 or through their website www.childline.ie. The service is open 24 hours a day, every day. There will always somebody here for you to chat with, no matter the time of day or night.

We hope this helps!
