In an abusive home

Your Question

If I’m in an abusive home and I run away all the time but I have proof of bruises but my mam and her partner won’t admit it and they get people to lie and say it isn’t true would their be any way of me getting away from them

Answer

Hi there, thanks for getting in touch.

Firstly, thank you for reaching out and sharing your situation. It takes a lot of courage to speak up, and we’re here to help you. Living in an abusive home is incredibly difficult, and it’s important to know that you have options and support available.

If you ever feel unsafe at home, it’s crucial to contact emergency services immediately by dialling 999 or 112. Your safety is the top priority, and emergency services can intervene when you’re in immediate danger.

It’s also important to know about Túsla, the Child & Family Agency in Ireland. They are there to protect and support young people like you who are in unsafe situations. You can contact them for help and they can investigate your situation, especially if you have evidence like bruises.

You are never alone in this. The Childline team is here to support you and help you explore your options. Childline is available 24 hours a day, every day. You can reach out to us for free by calling 1800 66 66 66, or you can chat with us online by visiting www.Childline.ie and clicking on the purple chat icon. We are there to listen and support you without judgment.

One option that you might consider is allowing the Childline team to make a referral on your behalf. If you decide to share all your details, we can contact the appropriate agencies to get you the help you need. This step can be a crucial part of ensuring your safety and well-being.

Remember, there are people who care about you and want to help you. You do not have to face this alone. Reach out to Childline or Túsla, and they can provide you with the support and protection you deserve.

Stay safe and take care,
Alex
