Answer

Hello,

Thank you for writing to us here. You seem to have a few things on your mind. Gaming is something you see yourself doing in the future. You are saying your parents tell you studying is key for you to succeed. And you also say that you’ve been having suicidal thoughts and feelings.

We are sorry to hear you are struggling with your mental health and experiencing suicidal feelings. This can happen to anyone. You are not alone in feeling this way. It sounds like there has been some stress between you and your parents regarding studying. It is clear your mental health is suffering.

Just as you are not alone in feeling suicidal, you also do not have to go through this tough time alone. You have the right to support and help from the people around you. You parents/guardians, teachers and other adults in your life have a responsibility to care for you. Have you ever talked to your parents about your suicidal thoughts? If you do not want to talk to them, you have the right to choose another adult you trust to chat to.

At times, talking to someone you do not know can be easier. If you are feeling this way, then there are other choices available to you.  www.jigsaw.ie  are an organisation in Ireland who help young people with mental health difficulties, and www.pieta.ie offer support to people who are having suicidal ideations. The Childline website also has some articles on family relationships www.childline.ie/home-and-families/  and how I feel www.childline.ie/how-i-feel/ which you may find helpful.

One more option that is available to you is to chat to us at Childline. We would love to hear from you too. We do not judge you or tell you what to do. We will chat about supports that may be available to you. Our services are confidential and private, and open 24-hours a day, 7 days a week.  You can chat to us on the phone at 1800 66 66 66, text us on 50101 or get through to us on web chat at www.childline.ie

Thank you for trusting Ask Pat to chat to. It is very brave of you. In reaching out to us, you have already taken the first step in your journey to getting the support that you need.

Take care of yourself. We hope to hear from you soon.

Pat
