Answer

Hey there, welcome to Ask Alex!

First off, we just want to say that you’re incredibly brave for reaching out and asking this question. It takes a lot of courage to open up about something that might be causing you distress. Feeling like you’re constantly splitting can be really tough, and it’s important to know that you’re not alone in experiencing this.

Sometimes, when we feel overwhelmed or stressed, our minds can go into a kind of protection mode, where we might start seeing things in black and white, or feeling like our emotions are all over the place. This can happen for a lot of reasons, and it’s not your fault.

As we are not medical professionals at Ask Alex, we would encourage you to talk to someone you trust about what you’re going through, whether that’s a family member, friend, or a professional like a therapist. They can offer support and help you find coping strategies that work for you.

You may find this article helpful spunout.ie/mental-health/conditions/mental-health-conditions. There are also organisations which specialise in supporting people with personality disorders and other mental health conditions. Two of which are Aware.ie and Jigsaw.ie.

Remember, if you ever feel unsafe at home or anywhere else, it’s important to reach out to emergency services at 999 or 112.

If you need someone to talk to, or would like to go through some options available to you, the Childline team is here for you 24/7. You can reach us by free-phone at 1800  66 66 66 or through webchat at childline.ie. We are confidential, non-judgmental and your call or chat is anonymous unless you decide to give us your personal information.

You’re never alone in this. There are people who can help you through this stage of your journey.

Look after yourself, and reach out for the support you deserve, real soon,
Alex
