Answer

Hi there, and welcome to Ask Pat.

Well done on contacting Ask Pat for some advice. I am really sorry to hear that you have been having bad thoughts. If these are thoughts that might put yourself at harm, it is really important to seek support with this. I know you have said that you are not good at opening up and that you do not want to tell anyone. You have also said that you think you might have depression and anxiety and that it never goes away. You are going through a very tough time right now and you deserve to get some help to make this time and your worries more bearable. You deserve to feel happy again and getting the right help from a professional or GP is the best way to do this.

It might be a good idea to talk to a trusted adult in your life, maybe a parent or aunt or teacher. Perhaps you’d like to write down how you feel and show the trusted adult, as this can sometimes be an easier way to get your feelings out. However, if you feel like you would prefer to speak to a stranger, you could try chatting to one of our trained volunteers in Childline. If you log onto the Childline website www.childline.ie  there are 3 ways in which you can talk to us: live message, free text  50101 or free phone 1800 66 66 66. There are some articles on the Childline website that you may find useful: https://www.childline.ie/how-i-feel/

If you feel like you are ever in immediate danger you can ring the Emergency services on 999 or 112 and they can keep you safe from harm. These calls are free from any mobile or landline.

I hope you find this information helpful and I hope you can get some support soon.

Take Care,

Pat.
