Answer

Hello,

Thanks for getting in touch with us here. You are feeling like giving up lately, because of people treating you horribly. We are sorry to hear this has been the case for you. No body has the right to treat you disrespectfully.

At times young people can experience negative emotions. It can be really debilitating and affect all aspects of your life. You say you feel like giving up and that is understandable given people have been so nasty towards you. We are concerned to hear that you are feeling this way, as you have the right to life, the right to be safe and the right to be happy.

No one ever has the right to say or do hurtful things to you. You have a right to feel loved and supported by those around you. It is important you feel safe and comfortable at home. Would there be an adult at home who you could talk to about feeling down? Perhaps you feel that you cannot talk to somebody at home, and that is ok, in that case you have a right to speak to someone outside of your home, like a relative, teacher or your GP. You would not be expected to put up with others being horrible towards you, no matter where it happens.

Maybe you would like to talk to someone who does not know you personally. www.jigsaw.ie are an organisation who help young people with their mental health. They have services across the country. You can find out what services are nearest to you on their website. There are some articles on the Childline website about family relationships www.childline.ie/home-and-families/, friendships //www.childline.ie/friends/, and your rights  www.childline.ie/your-rights/

If you’d like to reach out to Childline and explore some options that may be available to you, we will be delighted to hear from you.  You can contact us any time of the day or night on phone lines 1800 66 66 66, text 50101 or web chat at www.childline.ie. All the services are free, confidential and non-judgmental.

You are very brave to be open with us, especially while you are going through a hard time.

Take care for now.  We hope to hear from you soon.

Pat
