I feel attracted to my friend

I feel attracted to my friends and they identify as male I especially feel attracted to my best friend and he is gay does this make me gay

Answer

Hey there, thanks for asking your question

It’s completely normal to experience feelings of attraction, and it’s great that you’re open about what you’re going through. It’s important to remember that feelings can be complex, and they don’t necessarily fit neatly into labels. Attraction doesn’t define your sexual orientation, and having feelings for someone of the same gender doesn’t automatically mean you’re gay.

It’s positive that you’re considering your emotions and questioning them. It might be helpful to explore your feelings further and reflect on the nature of your connection with your friend. Sometimes, close friendships can evoke strong emotions that may not necessarily be romantic or sexual. You may find this article helpful  www.childline.ie/sexuality/, and there are many more there too www.childline.ie/sexuality-and-relationships/.

If you find these feelings are causing you distress or confusion, it could be helpful to talk to someone you trust about it. Whether it’s a friend, family member, or a counsellor, having a supportive person to share your thoughts with can make a significant difference.

Remember, you’re not alone in what you are going through with these emotions. If you ever need to talk more or just want to chat, Childline is here for you.
