Answer

Hey there! You are very welcome to Ask Alex!

It sounds like you’re going through a tough time right now, and it’s completely okay to feel that way. The transition from holiday break back to school can be challenging for many young people. It’s important to acknowledge those feelings and understand that you’re not alone in experiencing them. As you get ready to return to school, it’s normal to feel a bit anxious or even a bit down.

Remember, it’s okay to reach out to friends, family, or a trusted adult to share your feelings. You are never alone in facing these challenges. Surrounding yourself with a support system can make a significant difference. Sometimes just expressing your thoughts and emotions can be a relief in itself.

If you find that these feelings are continuing or becoming overwhelming, consider talking to a school counsellor or a mental health professional. They are there to help and can provide guidance on coping strategies and resources. You don’t have to go through these emotions on your own; there are people who care about your well-being and are ready to support you. There are free programmes for teens and parents of teens who suffer from mild anxiety offered by ISPCC. You can find out more about them here www.ispcc.ie/guided-digital-programmes/.

As you approach the new school term, try to focus on the positive aspects of your experience – reconnecting with friends, engaging in activities you enjoy, and setting small, achievable goals. Alex
