Alex's Answer

I am non-binary and want to wear feminine clothes

Your Question

Hey Alex, I am Non-Binary, I was assigned male at birth. I want to get some traditionally feminine clothes to try out and to wear but I am too scared to do that, my family is generally supportive (I have only come out to them as gay) but idk what’s making me scared, any ideas tips or words of encouragement?

Answer

Hi there and welcome to Ask Alex.

Thank you so much for contacting us today. We appreciate you trusting us with your thoughts.

You say that you are non-binary and that you want to try traditionally feminine clothes, but you are scared to do that.  You mention that you have come out to your family as gay and that they are generally supportive. Would you feel comfortable talking your parents about being non-binary too and share how you are feeling. Or do you have another trusted adult who may be someone outside of your immediate family that you could talk to and support you with this?

beLonGTo is an organisation for LGBTQI+ youth. You can find out how they work and what support they can offer you on their website www.BelongTo.ie. There is an article on the Childline website which may help your family and friends understand a little more about being non-binary and how to be respectful towards you www.childline.ie/what-does-it-mean-to-be-non-binary/.
