Answer

Hi there, you are very welcome to Ask Pat,

We are glad you have chosen to reach out to us. You have been through a really hard time and no one should have to deal with suicidal thoughts alone. On top of that, school and your parents have been causing stress in your life.

It is absolutely understandable you would be struggling and crying a lot, while feeling suicidal. Suicidal thoughts and feelings can be debilitating and really affect a young person’s life. Thoughts like ‘I can’t do this’ are coming up for you and this sounds tough to deal with, especially without support.

We would be concerned to hear that you are having suicidal thoughts. You have let us know that you fake a smile a lot, have you ever let people around you know how you really feel? Is there any adult that you feel comfortable with and can rely on in your life? We would like to let you know that you have every right to get help when you feel suicidal. Needing to cry would be completely natural and you would have the right to express your emotions in this way whenever you feel down.

As well as support from those around you, you also have the right to get help from services. These services could be medical professionals like doctors and counsellors.  There are also organisations that help young people dealing with suicide or mental health difficulties. Pieta House offer counselling to young people who are suicidal on 0818 111 126. You can check out their website here www.pieta.ie. There are some articles on the Childline website too where you may find some information helpful www.childline.ie/how-i-feel

Of course, Childline is also here day and night to listen to you. We are very open to speaking with you on our freephone line 1800 66 66 66, on our free text service at 50101 or on our web chat service online at  www.childline.ie.

You are so brave to ask us your question here. We hope you can get some help from those around you and when you contact us.  You never have to be alone while being suicidal. Childline is always here for you.

Take care,

 Pat
