Foster parent calling me names

Your Question

I feel mentally unbalanced after my foster parent has been calling me names for 2 weeks, making me feel broken and not giving me food on few occasions saying I am selfish. I cannot focus on studies or be happy. I have just been having a lot of terrible emotions plus the pain of not having my parents .I feel suffocated, feel like it will be better not to exist than feel this type of pain .I am tired of this life as I do not know what to do

Answer

Hi there and welcome to Ask Alex.

Thanks for reaching out; it sounds like you have a lot going on at the moment, and we know this can be difficult.

You’re saying that your foster parents are calling you names and not giving you food, that you feel the pain of not having your parents, and that you’re tired of this life and don’t know what to do.

We’re sorry to hear you feel this way and can understand that you have been through some traumatic events. We feel it’s really important that you speak to an adult you trust about what’s going on for you.

Do you have a social worker that you speak to regularly? Or maybe a teacher at school? It’s important to remember that you have a right to feel safe and be happy, especially in your home. If you ever feel at immediate risk, you can call the Gardaí on 112 or 999, and they will keep you safe.

You say that you feel it would be better not to exist than feel this type of pain. There are services that can help you when you are feeling like this. Pieta House (www.pieta.ie/) is available 24/7 to talk to. Maybe you can also speak to your GP? Your GP will know what supports are available in your area and which ones would be best for you.

You can also reach out to us here at Childline. You can contact us on our free phone service 1800 66 66 66 or chat with us through our webchat service by clicking on the purple Messenger circle at www.childline.ie. We would love to hear from you.

Please remember you’re not alone. Take care of yourself,
Alex
