Fighting parents

Your Question

my parents are fighting. What do i do

Answer

Hello there,

Thank you for reaching out to us. It’s brave of you to seek help, and we’re here to support you. It’s tough when your parents are fighting, and it can leave you feeling worried, scared, or even helpless. Please know that you are not alone in this, and many young people face similar situations.

First, try to find a safe and quiet place in your home where you can go when things get heated. This can be your room or any other space where you feel secure. It’s important to take care of yourself and your emotions during these times. Sometimes, listening to music, reading a book, or talking to a friend can help distract you and ease your mind.

If you ever feel unsafe at home, please contact emergency services immediately at 999 or 112. Your safety is the most important thing.

Remember, it’s ok to ask for help from trusted adults outside of your home, like teachers, relatives, or school counsellors. You may also find this article helpful www.childline.ie/what-to-do-if-you-live-with-parents-who-are-constantly-fighting/.

You can contact us for free by phone at 1800 66 66 66 or by Messenger at www.Childline.ie (just click on the purple chat icon). We’re here to listen and help you find ways to cope and feel safer.

Take care of yourself, and don’t hesitate to reach out whenever you need support. You are important, and we’re here for you.

Best wishes,
Alex
