Answer

Hello there, welcome to Ask Alex!

First of all, we want to thank you for reaching out and sharing what’s going on. It takes a lot of courage to ask for help, and it’s an important step toward finding a solution. We are here to listen and support you.

We’re so sorry to hear about what you’re experiencing at home, especially during such a stressful time like your exams. No one should ever be hurt or feel unsafe in their own home. In Ireland, it’s against the law for an adult to hit a child. You have the right to feel safe and loved at home, and your parents should be there to support you, not harm you.

If you’re ever feeling unsafe at home, it’s crucial to contact emergency services at 999 or 112. There are people who can help right away if you are in immediate danger. Additionally, Túsla, The Child and Family Agency in Ireland, is there to ensure that all young people live in a safe environment. They have social workers whose job is to make sure you are protected. You might need the support of another adult to access this help, but it’s important to reach out.

Remember, you are never alone. The Childline team is here for you 24 hours a day, every day. We’re here to support you and explore your options together. You can contact us for free at 1800 66 66 66, or by Messenger at www.Childline.ie (just click on the purple chat icon). We’re always here to listen and help.
