Entered an art contest

Your Question

Hey alex. Basically I entered this art contest. And it ends on June 15th. So i only have 2 weeks!!!!!!!!! I only just started. For a while I was figuring out what to draw. Now im procrastinating drawing it!! Im just not in the mood. I don’t know. I’m freaking out. I don’t think I’ll be done by the deadline. I may not be ready to even join a contest. But I think this is the only opportunity I have!! I know it’d be mature not to if I’m not mentally ready, but I want to be and I already joined and Im 99% sure that this is my only chance before I’m 15. And I want to be seen for my singing + art before I’m 14.

Answer

Hello. Thanks for getting in touch with your questions!

It’s really great to hear about all your creative hobbies. It sounds like you care a lot about art and want to improve and go places with it. It is always nice to see someone have confidence and ambition in their abilities.

We do understand your frustration, though. Deadlines and procrastination are common challenges for many people. Getting started and making progress with a project is tough, and when procrastination gets in the way, it can make getting to the end of a piece of work more daunting each time we push it out.

Remember to not be too hard on yourself. You are still very young with lots more time ahead to learn about your art and apply for and win contests. That being said, don’t throw in the towel just yet. All you can do is give it your best shot with this contest, and who knows, you might end up meeting the deadline. We found this handy article all about procrastination which you might find useful: spunout.ie/education/study-exams/procrastination/?.
