Alex's Answer

If I report something, can it be anonymous?

Your Question

If a report something can it be anonymous

Answer

Hi there, you are very welcome to Ask Alex.

Thank you for contacting us. You have asked about reporting, and if you can do this anonymously.

To answer your question, you can give information relating to a crime or other activities in an anonymous way by contacting the Garda Confidential Number on 1800 666 111. By sharing any information you have about a crime or incident, you can help An Garda Síochána solve crimes and potentially prevent future crimes from taking place.

If you are a victim of crime or a witness to one, you should report this to An Garda Síochána as soon as possible. We understand that it can be very difficult to report an incident, but An Garda Síochána have specially trained staff who are there to listen, give you guidance and support and treat you with dignity and respect.

Remember you are not alone. There are people around you that would be happy to support you through the reporting process. You may find it helpful to talk to a trusted adult about your concerns around reporting an incident. This could be a parent, aunt/uncle, cousin, friend, or youth worker.

If you are finding it hard to talk to those in your life whom you are close to, you are very welcome to chat with the Childline Team through our web chat on www.childline.ie, by text on  50101 or by phone on  1800 66 66 66 .  Childline services are free and confidential, and are available 24 hours, 7 days a week.

Thank you for reaching out to us.

Take care,

Alex
