Pat's Answer

Would you give me new ways to kill myself or to make myself dead?

Your Question

This may be a silly question but would you give me new ways to kill myself or to make myself dead?

Answer

Hi, you are very welcome to Ask Pat.

Thank you for reaching out to us. You are very brave. Here at Childline, we would be very concerned about anyone asking for new ways to kill themselves or make themselves dead, and we would like to try and understand why you might feel this way. Has something happened to you recently that’s making you feel this way or perhaps you’ve been feeling like wanting to make yourself dead for a while?

We know it’s not always easy to talk about feelings, but we also know the importance of talking to someone we trust. Have you spoken to someone you trust about how you are feeling? This person could be a parent, aunt/uncle, sibling, school teacher or guidance counsellor. You have a right seek help and support about how you are feeling and the thoughts you are experiencing. You also have a right to professional help, this could be talking to your doctor or to a counsellor. It is important for your own mental well-being that you get the support you need and to find out why it is that you want new ways of killing yourself or making yourself dead.

Here are some websites that might be of help to you: www.pieta.ie; www.jigsaw.ie; www.yourmentalhealth.ie

These organisations support young people who are going through what you are going through right now. They may help you understand what is going on for you or they can point you in the right direction of other supports. The Childline website has some information too which you may like to look at: www.childline.ie/how-i-feel /

If you feel you are not ready to talk to someone you know quite yet, we strongly encourage you to reach out to us at Childline as we would love to be there for you and chat through your feelings. You could give us a call on 1800 66 66 66 or a text at  50101 or even have a web chat with us throughwww.childline.ie.  The services are free and confidential and are available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

It was great hearing from you, and please know that you can contact us anytime.

Take Care of yourself and be safe,

Pat
