Pat's Answer

Why is no one listening to me

Your Question

why is no one listening to me?

Answer

Welcome to Ask Pat, thank you for writing to us.

We appreciate you being open with us. You are wondering why no one is listening to you.

Feeling unheard cannot be easy on you. It is understandable that this may be on your mind as we all deserve to be listened to and understood.

Would there be someone in your life who you have spoken to and you felt they did not listen? If so, what would it be like to tell this person that you feel this way? As a young person you have the right to express your feelings and in turn be listened to by those around you. The adults in your life have a responsibility to ensure you are supported and heard.

The Childline website has a section all about the rights children and young people have in Ireland. You can see here it explains that all young people have the right to be listened to. Having a read of this may be of help www.childline.ie/your-rights/

You are always welcome to chat with us at Childline too. We can talk through your thoughts and feelings about whatever is going on for you. We can also look at what options are available for you going forward. We are here to listen on the phone at 1800 66 66 66, text service at 50101 and the online web chat at www.childline.ie  All of the services are free and are open 24-hours a day, every day. You never have to feel alone, Childline is always here for you.

Take care, mind yourself. We hope to hear from you soon.
