Hi there, and welcome to Ask Alex. We’re glad you got in touch to talk about what’s on your mind. 

From what you’re saying, it sounds like you might be feeling misunderstood and that you don’t receive the same level of support that you give to those in your life. That must be hard, and of course it’s understandable that this might be upsetting for you and leave you feeling lonely. It is not easy feeling like you give more to a friendship or relationship than the other person does, and that you don’t get the same level of understanding from others. It sounds like you have great communication and listening skills and that you have the ability to empathise with others, those are great skills to have in life so well done for that. 

Do you think that your friends and family are aware that you feel like nobody understands you like you understand them? What would it be like to tell the people in your life that you feel they do not understand you? Is this something that you have tried? You have a right to be listened to by the adults who care for you. If someone at home is not there for you, you would have the right to talk to an adult outside home, somebody that you trust like a teacher, or an extended family member like an auntie, uncle, older cousin or grandparent. Maybe there is someone who could listen to your point of view and help you come up with ideas on how to improve things for yourself.
