WHY DO YOU MAKE PEOPLE REGISTER to make ????????????????????????


Hello, welcome to Ask Pat. 

You would like to know why we ask people to register when they make inquiries. 

It is understandable that you would like to know why we would ask you for information about yourself. The information we ask from you when registering will not identify you or any one in any way. Your chat and calls are private and are totally confidential between Ask Pat, Childline and you, if we do not have identifying information about you. The Childline services do not trace calls and your phone number and IP address are hidden from us. Childline is a listening service, we are here to chat or talk to you about your thoughts and feelings, about what is going on for you. When a young person registers for our service we ask for a first name or nickname and this is so we can have a chat together. Also, when registering we ask you for your age because Ask Pat and Childline are services for young people 18 years and younger. If you are older that 18, then Childline would not be the right service for you. Giving us your gender is optional, so you can choose to give it or not.

Childline is not here to tell you what to do or give out to you. We will never judge you and everything you say to Childline stays between you and Childline, so it is totally private. We do not ask for any identifying information such as where you live or where you go to school. If you do give us identifying information like this and we become concerned about you during the chat or call, then we may need to pass on this identifying information to the Gardaí or social services, as it is their job to make sure that young people under the age of 18 are safe.
