Why do nurses wear gloves

Your Question

My mum is having a medical examination today and the nurse will be wearing gloves is that normal

Hey there! Welcome to Ask Alex,
It sounds like you’re going through a bit of a confusing time, and it’s totally okay to have questions about your mum’s medical examination. First and foremost, we want to say that it’s completely normal for healthcare professionals, like nurses, to wear gloves during medical examinations. They use gloves as a precautionary measure to maintain hygiene and protect both themselves and the patients.
Your mum’s health is a top priority, and these examinations are designed to ensure she receives the best care possible. The gloves help prevent the spread of germs and maintain a clean environment. It’s a standard practice in medical settings, and it doesn’t mean there’s anything unusual going on.
If you’re feeling a bit uneasy about it, how would you feel talking to your mum. Let her know your thoughts and concerns. She’ll likely appreciate your concern and might be able to offer some reassurance about the whole process. It’s perfectly okay to look for comfort and understanding when it comes to your loved ones’ health.

If you feel you are not ready to talk to your mum yet, that’s ok. The Childline Team are here for you. You can talk to us by phone or web chat. The services are open 24-hours a day, every day. The service never closes. You can talk and we will listen to you.  Our 24-hour freephone number is 1800 66 66 66 and our web chat is through Live Chat on our website

Take care! of yourself, and well done for being concerned about your mum,
