Why do I constantly feel numb?

Answer

Hello, thank you for contacting Ask Alex.

We understand that it can be difficult to open up about how you are feeling, so thank you for reaching out.

We are sorry to hear that you’re feeling numb. That must be difficult for you. Constant feels of numbness can often be a sign of some deeper emotional state. These feelings are related to our mental health and it sounds like maybe your mental health needs some care. It would be good for you to talk to a trusted adult such as parent/ family member so that they can support you to talk to a doctor or a mental health professional about your feelings. They will help you to explore and understand why you’re feeling this way and find ways to cope.

Here are some websites which support young people who have mental health concerns and maybe they can be some help to you as well: www.yourmentalhealth.ie along with www.jigsaw.ie are organisations which help people who are feeling the way that you are right now. It is important that you get the help you deserve. Talking to somebody when we are not feeling good can really help us to feel better. We can be given techniques to help us to cope when things are bad.

You may also find some of the articles on the Childline website helpful www.childline.ie/how-i-feel/.

Remember that you are not alone. If you ever need to talk or need help finding resource here at Childline, there is a team of people ready to listen to you whenever you are ready to share your thoughts and feelings. We are available 24 hour a day, 7 days a week. You can contact us via phone: 1800 66 66 66, or through our webchat at www.childline.ie. You can start a chat at any time by clicking on the Orange Tab on the right-hand side of your screen.

Take Care,

Alex.
