Answer

Welcome to Ask Alex,

Can we start by saying how brave you are for reaching out, it is clear to see from your message that you are going through a difficult time now.

You have mentioned that you have “attempted to kill yourself”, we are so sorry that something has pushed you to want to end your life. That must have been a very difficult time for you. You have mentioned also “what do I do now?”.

We would really encourage you to reach out for help. Have you told or is there anyone else who knows about your attempt at taking your own life? We would be very concerned for your safety at this point and think that it is so important that you reach out to those around you and get the support that you deserve.

Have you got an adult in your life that could support you in attending your local GP and speaking with them about what is going on for you? You need to know that you are not alone in this, we hear you and we would like to think that you have people in your life who would like to be there for you and support you in anyway they can through this difficult time.

There are many supports available that you could also link with such as Pieta house. They have a Crisis Line in which you can be supported, their number is 1800 247 247 or you can text “HELP” to 51444 the website is www.pieta.ie and you will find other resources that you might find helpful.

The Jigsaw website will also provide details and supports around your mental health; their website is www.jigsaw.ie.

If you find yourself in a medical emergency contact 112 or 999 straight away.

You have made a very brave first step but you will require continued support and it is important that you get that. If you feel you cannot talk to those around you right now you can always contact our Childline team. We will listen and support you. You can contact us via the freephone number on 1800 66 66 66 or via chat through our webchat service, by clicking on the purple Messenger circle at www.childline.ie. We are here 24-hours every day, for confidential, non-judgmental support, for any reason .

We really feel that the next step  important step to take right now is linking with your GP. They will be able to guide and support you through the next stage of your journey. You are strong, you are brave, you are here, and you are not alone.

Never stop reaching out,

Alex
