Hello there, welcome to Ask Alex!
Thank you for reaching out and sharing how you’re feeling. It takes a lot of courage to even take this step, and we want you to know that you’re not alone. Many young people feel the same way you do, and it’s completely ok to have mixed feelings about seeking help.
It’s important to remember that every young person in Ireland has the right to be safe and protected in their homes, as well as the right to get professional medical care when needed. Even if a big part of you is scared or reluctant, that small part of your brain that wants help is important to listen to. It’s there because it knows you deserve support and care.
There are several resources available to help you, such as Jigsaw and Aware, which provide mental health support for young people. These organisations are here to listen and guide you through whatever you’re experiencing, without any pressure. You don’t have to go through this alone, and you don’t have to talk to anyone if you’re not ready; you can start by exploring their online resources.
If you ever feel unsafe at home, it’s crucial to contact emergency services immediately by dialling 999 or 112. Your safety is the top priority, and there are professionals ready to help you at any time.
Remember, you are never alone. The Childline team is here for you, ready to support you and explore your options together. We are available 24 hours a day, every day. You can contact us for free by phone at 1800 66 66 66 or through Messenger at by clicking on the purple chat icon.
We’re here to listen, support, and help you find the right path forward. You matter, and your feelings are important. Take care, and reach out whenever you’re ready, by webchat or phone.
Warmest regards,
