Answer
Hi there,
Thank you for getting in touch with us regarding your question. It sounds like you’re experiencing a lot of intense emotions in anticipation of receiving your leaving cert results. It seems you might be concerned about your parents’ reaction, and you’ve been having distressing dreams about this. That sounds really challenging, and we think it’s great that you’ve reached out to express these feelings. We want you to understand that you’re not alone in experiencing these emotions, and it’s crucial to share them as it can feel overwhelming to face them on your own.
Have you discussed these feelings with anyone else, such as a friend or sibling? Maybe you know someone who has gone through this process before, and they might be able to offer insights into what helped them.
Feeling stressed about how your parents might react or worrying about disappointing them can be overwhelming. Often, parents respond this way because they want what’s best for you, and their reactions stem from a place of love, even though it might not feel like that at the moment. Have you spoken to them about your concerns regarding their potential reactions?
It’s also important to recognise that your results and your leaving certificate don’t define who you are or your entire future. Life offers a multitude of different pathways and opportunities. What’s most important is that you’re happy, safe, and loved.

You’ve shown a lot of courage by reaching out and sharing your thoughts. If you’d like to discuss this further, you can always call us at any time on 1800 66 66 66, or you can initiate a Live Chat on www.childline.ie by clicking on the Orange Tab on the right-hand side of your screen.
Take care of yourself, we are here if you’d like to get in touch again,
