Stop depression relapse

Your Question

How do I stop a depression relapse

Answer

Hi there, welcome to Ask Alex!

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your concerns. It takes a lot of courage to talk about your feelings, and we’re here to help you. Experiencing a depression relapse can be very challenging, but there are steps you can take to manage it and find your way back to feeling better.

Although we are not medical professionals here at Ask Alex, the following is some guidance and if you are having any of the symptoms, reach out to your medical professional without delay. First and foremost, it’s important to recognise the signs of a relapse. This could include feeling sad or hopeless, losing interest in activities you once enjoyed, or changes in your sleep and appetite. When you notice these signs, reach out to a trusted person, whether it’s a family member, friend, teacher, or counsellor. Talking to someone you trust can provide immediate support and help you feel less alone.

In addition, there are resources available to support you. If you’re ever feeling unsafe or at risk, please contact emergency services at 999 or 112, or present yourself to the nearest Emergency Department (ED). For support with suicidal thoughts, you can visit www.Pieta.ie. For mental health support, check out Jigsaw and Aware. These organisations offer valuable resources and guidance to help you with your feelings.

It’s also crucial to maintain healthy habits that support your mental well-being. This includes regular exercise, a balanced diet, and sufficient sleep. Additionally, practicing mindfulness or engaging in hobbies can be beneficial. Remember, taking care of your physical health can positively impact your mental health.
