She is not nice

Your Question

My mum isn’t nice

Answer

Hi there,

Thank you for contacting us. We know it’s not always easy to reach out for support and share how you’re feeling. We also know how important it is to be able to share your worries and address the feelings brought on by your concerns.

You have told us that your mum isn’t nice, which can’t feel good for you right now. Family relationships can be difficult to navigate but everyone has the right to be treated with kindness and respect. Have you been able to speak to your Mum about how you are feeling? We know it is hard to talk about how our relationships are affecting us, especially when we’re upset, and our emotions are influencing how we communicate with others. Have you thought about trying to talk to your Mum about how you feel, when you’re both calm and relaxed? When we’re feeling upset it can be difficult to express yourself clearly. If the other person is also upset, it can be hard for them to listen to and accept how you’re feeling.

It is however important to have open and honest conversations about your feelings and seek help from people that can support you, so well done for taking the step and reaching out.

You may want to think about talking to a trusted adult, such as another family member, a teacher, or a school counsellor, and of course you can always reach out and talk to one of the Childline team to get some support and advice on how to start the conversation. Could another family member support you to have this conversation with your Mum? Maybe an aunt or uncle or a Grandparent? If you’re not ready to talk to someone you know just yet, here are some links that might be of help How To Manage Family Relationships (childline.ie) or 8 Things To Do When You Feel Overwhelmed At Home (childline.ie)

Thank you for your question and if you are not ready to talk to your family yet remember we are here to talk about anything that is going on for you. Childline is here for you anytime you need us, day, and night, www.childline.ie  is where you can Live Chat with us, and you can call us for free at 1800 66 66 66.

Take care of yourself, and know you are not alone. There are people who care about you and want to support you. Please reach out soon,

Alex
