Hi there, thank you for reaching out to us!
It’s completely normal to have questions and concerns about using tampons for the first time. You’re definitely not alone in feeling this way, and many others have the same worries. We’re here to help you navigate this new experience and provide the support you need.
Using a tampon might seem a bit tricky at first, but with a little practice, it gets easier. This booklet, and particularly page 30, tells you all about puberty and how to use a tampon
It’s understandable to worry about Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS), but it’s very rare. To minimize risk, change your tampon every 4-8 hours and use the lowest absorbency needed. You might want to set a reminder on your phone so you don’t forget. And remember, it’s ok to use pads or pantyliners if you’re more comfortable with them.
You are never alone. The Childline team is here for you, to support you and explore your options with you. We’re open 24 hours a day, every day.
