Answer

Hi there, you are very welcome to Ask Alex.

Thank you for getting in touch. We understand that it’s not always easy to share how we’re feeling, but we also know how important it is to talk about our worries.

You have mentioned that you feel like nobody cares about you anymore and you don’t know what to do. It sounds like you are going through a difficult time at the moment, and we are sorry to hear that you are feeling this way.

It’s not unusual for a person to experience a period of loneliness in their lives, and to have doubts about whether the people close to them actually care about them. However, if we block up these feelings, they can start to feel overwhelming. That’s why it’s important to communicate to others how we are feeling. How would you feel about talking to the people around you who you feel no longer care about you and express how you have been feeling.

It can be difficult to verbalise our thoughts and feelings, so you may find writing a letter helpful, or even sending them a text message. Sometimes we don’t realise there are people around us who do care about us and who want to support us. This could be a family member, friend, teacher, or coach. Having someone like this around you to support you, when communicating your feelings to those you feel don’t care, may also be helpful. There are many articles on the Childline website in the Home & Families section if you are feeling it is your family who no longer care for you. Here is one around loneliness which may help you www.childline.ie/loneliness/

It is also important to surround yourself with people who make you feel good about yourself, and who you are happy to be around. For example, if a friend group was excluding you or giving you the impression that they don’t care about you, it may be time to think about moving on from this friendship and to try to find healthier friendships with people who support you, build you up, and treat you with the respect and kindness you deserve. Here is another article from the Childline website that you may find helpful www.childline.ie/how-to-build-healthy-friendships-and-relationships/

If you feel that you are not yet ready to talk to those closest to you, you are very welcome to chat to the Childline Team about how you are feeling. While chatting to Childline, you could also practice what you might say to those that you feel no longer care about you, as sometimes it is easier to talk to someone, we don’t know about the struggles we are facing. Childline services are free and confidential, and are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can contact Childline by phone on 1800 66 66 66 or through our web chat on www.childline.ie, just click the orange Live Chat tab and send ‘hi’ or ‘hello’.

Remember, you are not alone. While it may feel like nobody cares about you, there are always supports available and services that care, like Childline.

Thank you for contacting us.

Take care of yourself,
