Hi there,

Thank you for contacting Ask Alex, you’re very welcome here today.

It sounds like things are hard for you in your relationship with your family at the moment, that your parents spend a lot of time taking care of your sister and so it feels like they forget about you. It’s really tough to feel like you are alone and that no one cares, and that you don’t see the point in living anymore.

Firstly, it’s important that you know we care about you and your well-being. Everyone can feel alone at some point, but it sounds like your sister’s illness and the time your parents spend looking after her is really increasing that feeling for you. Have you ever spoken to them about what it’s like for you? We know this could be something that you might not want to do, or it might seem like they’re too busy, but it is their role to care for and support you too, and they may not be aware of how alone you feel. Could you maybe choose a good time to talk to them, when they’re not looking after your sister or doing jobs around the house and let them know how you’ve been feeling lately? Perhaps you could even suggest doing something together, like going for a walk or watching a movie together.

You say you don’t see the point in living anymore, what do you feel you would miss most if you were no longer here? There may some positive things in your life, be it your friends, a pet, hobbies you really enjoy or goals you want to reach in the future. You deserve to live a happy and fulfilling life. What are your relationships with your friends like? Maybe you could reach out to some of them and see if there’s anything you would like to do together and possibly you could share how you’re feeling with those you trust most.
