My parents scream at me all day

Your Question

My parents are psychologically abusing me and screaming at me all day. What are my rights…

Answer

Hi there, thank you for reaching out to Ask Alex.

We are so sorry to hear this is happening to you. No form of abuse is acceptable and you have the right to feel safe and respected.  It is very important that you reach out and speak to a trusted adult about what you are experiencing as they can guide and support you to ensure your safety and wellbeing.  This person could be an aunt, uncle, grandparent, teacher, neighbour or anyone that you feel comfortable enough to talk with and that you will feel supported by. The following article on abuse may provide some useful information and guidance around abuse: www.childline.ie/what-is-abuse/

If you ever feel unsafe at home, you can call the Gardaí for help at 999 or 112. Their job is to make sure you are living in a safe home. Also, the social workers in Túsla (the Child and Family Agency in Ireland) are there for the same reason.

Maybe talking to an adult you trust is not an option for you just now, however,  you can always reach out to our Childline team. We are here for a talk or chat 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our services are free and confidential. You can talk to us by phone at 1800 66 66 66, or chat to us one-to-one through Live Chat on www.childline.ie . You are never alone, and there are people available to listen and explore your options with you so please reach out to us when you need help and support.

We hope this information has been useful for you and that you get the support you deserve. We are here when you are ready.

Look after yourself,

Alex
