My friends had a fight, now one is suicidal

Your Question

All the girls in my class have a group chat and two girls got in a fight on the group and one girl ā€œ1ā€ sent a horrible message to ā€œ2ā€ and ā€œ2ā€ sent it to the group and ā€œ2ā€ left the group so I text her and said hey do you want to be added back and said that what ā€œ1ā€ said was horrible and I’m not close with this girl and she sent me a photo of her crying and saying she might kill herself so I told her that the other girl might be insecure and I want her here and I’m here for her but I’m worried

Hi there and welcome to Ask Alex.Ā Ā

Thank you for sending your question to Ask Alex. We are glad you were able to get in touch.Ā  Ā

You said that all the girls in your class have a group chat and two of the girls in the chat got into a fight, which resulted in one of the girls leaving the group chat. You mentioned that you reached out to this girl, who replied with a photo of her upset saying that she might kill herself.Ā

It sounds like you are a really great friend and want to be supportive to all involved. If you are worried about your friend, you should talk to a trusted adult or contact the GardaĆ on 999/111 if you think she is an immediate risk to herself.Ā Ā

Suicide is a challenging topic to talk about in general and when you hear someone saying that they might kill themselves, it can be incredibly upsetting. Is there anyone in your life that you would feel comfortable talking to about this; perhaps somebody who has provided you with support in the past? It could be a trusted family member, a teacher or school counsellor. They may also be able to seek support and resources for your friend if he needs further help. There are also organisations that your friend can contact for support, one being Pieta House www.pieta.ie There is also support there for people who know someone who is suicidal or self-harming, which you may find helpful for yourself.Ā

If you would like to have a chat about how you are feeling, you can always contact us here at Childline, by clicking on the Livechat button on this website, or giving us a call on 1800 66 66 66. You can talk about anything you want to, and we are here to listen to whatever you would like to say. You do not have to be alone; we are always here to talk to you or indeed your friend too.Ā

Take care of yourself,Ā Ā
